Our BJJ Academy is located in Vaughan at 207 Edgeley Blvd. Our Academy is near the VMC Subway Station and is approximately a 4 minute walk to our BJJ Academy from the VMC Subway Station.

If you are driving to our BJJ Academy, there is plenty of free parking.

Yes! We offer a Free Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trial class for you to try without any commitments. 

No prior experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) or Martial Arts is necessary to try our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at KINGJIUJITSU Vaughan. All levels and ages 4+ are welcomed.

Yes! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches techniques to control, escape, and neutralize an opponent, making it highly effective for real-world self-defense situations.

No, you don’t! Training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will naturally improve your fitness, strength, flexibility, and endurance over time.

If it’s a Gi class, wear a Gi (or a borrowed one from the academy). If you do not have a Gi and we do not have one in your size, then you can wear t-shirt and shorts or sweat pants. 

For No-Gi, wear athletic shorts and a rash guard or a fitted t-shirt.

On average, it takes 8-12 years of consistent training to earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. However, progress depends on dedication, training frequency, and competition experience.

Beginners should aim for 2-3 times per week. More advanced students often train 4-6 times per week, depending on their goals.

While injuries can happen in any sport, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is relatively safe if practiced with proper technique, control, and respect for your training partners. Always tap early to avoid injuries!

For adults, the belt ranks are:

  1. White (beginner)
  2. Blue
  3. Purple
  4. Brown
  5. Black (expert)

It usually takes 1-3 years per belt level.

The kids’ belt system follows this order:

  1. White (Beginner)
  2. Gray (Gray-White, Solid Gray, Gray-Black)
  3. Yellow (Yellow-White, Solid Yellow, Yellow-Black)
  4. Orange (Orange-White, Solid Orange, Orange-Black)
  5. Green (Green-White, Solid Green, Green-Black)

Each belt (except White) has three variations:

  • White-striped (beginning level of that belt)
  • Solid color (intermediate level)
  • Black-striped (advanced level before moving to the next color)

Absolutely! We provide both Kids and Adults with high intensity training for the highest level of competition. 

We also have a dedicated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition Class for Kids and Teens which is by invite only. 

  • Kids usually spend 6-18 months at each belt level, depending on attendance, skill progression, and age.
  • Promotions are based on effort, knowledge, and attitude rather than just time on the mat.
  • It keeps kids engaged and provides achievable goals.

No, competition is optional. Some people compete to test their skills, but many train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purely for fun, self-defense, or fitness.

  • Chokes (Rear Naked Choke, Guillotine, Triangle, etc.)
  • Joint Locks (Armbar, Kimura, Americana, etc.)
  • Leg Locks (Heel Hook, Kneebar, Ankle Lock, etc.)

No, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does not involve strikes (punches, kicks, elbows).

Rolling is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s version of sparring—where you practice live grappling with a training partner using controlled resistance.

  • Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Practiced in a Kimono (Gi) where grips on the fabric are used.
  • No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Practiced in Rash Guards and Shorts, with faster, more wrestling-based techniques.
